Four Working Draft Articles Win COPAs

Congratulations to writers Caleb Jutzi, Megan Hederson, Danna Carreon, and Christina Klysh!

Working Draft contributors came away with four awards from the 2024 Canadian Online Publishing Awards.

Caleb Jutzi took Gold in Feel Good Story (Academic Division) for his tree-planting story. Megan Hederson took Gold for Feature Article (Academic Division) for her story about mental illness.

Danna Carreon’s piece on international students took Silver for Investigative Article, and Christina Klysh’s piece on thrifting took Silver for Lifestyle Article.

The winning articles were all published as part of our 2024 issue, Time:

A Forest in a Day by Caleb Jutzi
10,000 trees or bust

Together We Escape by Megan Hederson

Life Beyond Borders by Danna Bianca Carreon
International students leave their home countries to pursue their dreams — and education — in Canada, but once they arrive, many are faced with a harsh reality. Housing, employment, and issues around recruitment that don’t surface until they are already thousands of kilometres from home leave many international students in precarious situations.

The Resale Revolution by Christina Klysh

The COPAs are presented by Masthead, an industry magazine for Canadian publishing professionals, and are judged by media professionals from across the country. The 2024 awards were announced at a presentation in Toronto on February 12, 2025.
