Working Draft Articles Win COPAs

Congratulations to 2023 contributors Rachel Ferstl, Caleb Dueck, and Robel Berhane on winning Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPA) for their articles in Working Draft.

Ferstl and Berhane each took gold in their respective categories, Best Feature Article (Academic Division) and Best Multicultural Story (Academic Division).

Ferstl’s article, “Camp Like a Girl,” investigates the barriers girls and women face when it comes to participating in outdoor activities. Berhane’s personal story, Almost Home,” examines his evolving understanding of the idea of “home” as someone who came to Canada as an Eritrean refugee.

Dueck’s story, “Making my Peace with Babel,” took Silver in the Best Feel Good Story (Academic Division) category and documents his experience with Non-Verbal Learning Disorder.

The COPAs are presented by Masthead, an industry magazine for Canadian publishing professionals, and are judged by media professionals from across the country. The 2023 awards were announced at a presentation in Toronto on February 8, 2024.
